Common Assessment #2

Common Assessment #2 will be given on October 5 and October 6. The content being assessed is as follows:

STANDARDS:
SC.912.L.17.10 Diagram and explain the biogeochemical cycles of an ecosystem, including water, carbon, and nitrogen cycles.

SC.912.L.17.4 Describe changes in ecosystems resulting from seasonal variations, climate change, and succession.

SC.912.L.17.2 Explain the general distribution of life in aquatic systems as a function of chemistry, geography, light, depth, salinity, and temperature.

OBJECTIVES:
1. Students should know the water cycle, carbon cycle, and nitrogen cycle.
2. Students should be able to draw the carbon cycle and explain the movement of carbon through the biosphere.
3. Students should be able to draw the nitrogen cycle and explain the movement of nitrogen through the biosphere.
4. Students should know how earth maintains a suitable temperature range for life.
5. Students should know how climate change and seasonal variations affect ecosystems.
6. Students should be able to distinguish between climate change and seasonal variations.
7. Students should know the purposes of primary and secondary succession.
8. Students should be able to identify examples of primary succession.
9. Students should be able to predict the events that will occur through secondary succession in a terrestrial and a marine ecosystem.
10. Students should know the factors that affect life in freshwater and saltwater ecosystems.
11. Student should be able to explain how light, water chemistry, depth, salinity, and temperature affect life in aquatic ecosystems.
