Reactions and Enzymes Lesson Plans

Benchmark: SC.912.L.18.11 - Explain the role of enzymes as catalysts that lower the activation energy of biochemical reactions. Identify factors such as pH and temperature, and their effect on enzyme activity
Objectives:
1. Explain how the activation energy of a biochemical reaction changes in the presence of an enzyme
2. Describe the factors (concentration, pH, temperature) that can have an effect on enzyme activity
3. Analyze the effects of the factors (concentration, pH, temperature) on enzyme activity
Essential Question: Why are the actions of enzymes important to us?
Agenda:
OPENING: Matter and Energy Warm-up
MODELING: Notes on Reactions and Enzymes
GUIDED PRACTICE: Review Questions
INDEPENDENT PRACTICE: Section 2.4 Assessment #s 1-4 & Section 2.5 Assessment #s 1-4
